Traveling with your dog: EU rules

Traveling with your dog

There are EU rules for traveling with a dog within EU countries (and Norway and Northern Ireland). The rules also apply if you bring your dog into the EU from a country outside the EU.

With some exceptions, you can take your Longhair to another EU country, or from a country outside the EU to an EU country, provided it:

  • is chipped (in accordance with the technical requirements of Annex II of the EU Regulation on the movement of pet animals) or has a clearly legible tattoo applied before July 3, 2011.
  • Has been vaccinated against rabies
  • treated against fox tapeworm Echinococcus multilocularis, when traveling to a country where this tapeworm does not occur (Finland, Ireland, Malta, Norway and Northern Ireland)
  • have a valid European pet passport when traveling from an EU country or Northern Ireland, or an EU animal health certificate when coming from a country outside the EU.
